Antipodean Records presents
MdCL's Freesoul Sessions 4th Birthday LONDON FINALE
Sunday 9 Nov 7pm-midnight @ Cargo, London

LIVE: MARK DE CLIVE-LOWE with BEMBE SEGUE + VANESSA FREEMAN + TAWIAH + SHARLENE HECTOR + MYSTRO + RICHARD SPAVEN

DJS: PHIL ASHER + DOMU + MC MOTET

VJ: SOOPANATURAL

Founded by MdCL in London, 2004, the concept of Freesoul Sessions is simple - MdCL armed with MPC drum machine and keyboards is joined by a rotating cast of top soul, jazz, hip hop and beat-artists coming together in the spirit of total improvisation. Each and every time, the live show is totally unique and a one-off experience for the musicians and the crowd. The first thing you hear is the metronome click of the MPC as MdCL builds beats from thin air, dropping the bass lines and keys as musicians join him in improvising beat-head bliss laced with singers and MCs. Hip hop meets House, Brazil meets Brukstep.. it's the mash-up session like you've never heard it.

We're celebrating the clubnite's 4th Birthday at Cargo with a heavyweight line-up, and the added twist that it's the London Finale of the clubnite. MdCL is leaving the UK to setup his beatmaking shop in Los Angeles. One of the finest live artists you're going to see performing his last show on UK shores for some time.

The guests for the 4th Birthday special include MdCL's favourite UK artists and collaborators: Bémbé Ségué (The Politik, 4Hero, Jazzanova), Vanessa Freeman, Tawiah (Mark Ronson), Sharlene Hector (Basement Jaxx), Mystro, Richard Spaven (Ty, Jazzmatazz, Jose James) along with DJs Phil Asher (restless soul, Phlash + Friends), Domu and MC Motet (Bugz in the Attic). It's the best of UK underground soul, breaks, house, jazz and hip hop brought together for one night only. Live VJ by cutting edge visual artist Soopanatural.

'...the man behind a million great tunes' - Gilles Peterson/Radio 1 Worldwide

'... an interface between soul, jazz and electronica, a union of unrestrained live playing and inventive beatmaking, Freesoul occupies a very unique place in contemporary Black British Music' - Echoes Magazine

great vibes at freesoul session, was great to hear (and see) tawiah in action. i actually had an especially great weekend with stops in paris and lonson. the day before i was at la bellevilloise for marc mac and a mark force dj-set with kaidi tatham on the keys. phew! had no sleep that night, maximum a 30 minutes nap, then i already had to rush to the airport. now i don't know if it's easyjet or cdg airport in paris. check-in took forever, i was advised to proceed through security asap. man, the queue was like 200m long! lucky me i spotted mark and kaidi more than halfway through. cheated myself in, we were talking a bit on the plane (i had my book with me). the good news i got there is the blakai album, which is basically complete - but no release in sight! stayed with my friend nick in london for the day, then headed for cargo early enough for the rehearsals. i was surprised there weren't as many people as expected, but the likes of dego, seiji, patrick forge, adam rock etc. were all in. didn't expect to meet half of my last.fm contacts that weekend, in both paris and london. what a weekend, certainly worth the cold i got and the sleep i needed to catch up the entire week icon_smile.gif
