Simon mentioned it on Basic Soul... it sounded like Atjazz still had new music on the way, but not on Mantis apparently. It's weird... sudden. Seems like when a label is about to go under, it lies dormant for a while first. But not in this case. Definitely sad.
By the way, I had the same issue at the site so I wouldn't recommend going either. Nothing there now anyway other than the time of death... ___________________ Zane Tate

ahhh sad times indeed! mantis was a pretty great label but i must admit, this is not a surprise to me. i kept thinking they were going to under before the release of the "full circle" and the brooks stuff... i got promos of that stuff (bought in a shop no less) WAY before the actual release date. especially that brooks single (like almost a year before). not sure what really took so long for the release to come out physically. i guess it was only time... truly sad.
btw, i'm confused... was martin iverson (atjazz) the owner of the label or not? it seemed like it but then again, maybe i was wrong the whole time?? i guess maybe he was just a controller but did not oversee the business end of things? |

I thought he was the owner/founder as well, but I don't know any details... |

Peeps, we played a little Mantis Recordings tRIPlet in last weeks radioshow: http://www.beyondjazz.net/radio/
As opSN said, I have had the feeling they were in bad waters for a while now. Mantis releases typically took many months to get out there, with vague schedules and distribution. A big loss though, so let's hope all the artists find a new home soon... |

totally agree with that. it's a shame a good producer's label closes. and will he also stop producing good electronic music? i hope not!
